Goodnight Monkey, Good Morning Rooster!
As we prepare to bid farewell to the Fire Monkey and welcome the dawning of the Fire Rooster, let’s take a moment to reflect on some of the activities from this incredibly sacred Guru Rinpoche Year, as well as look forward to some of the up and coming events in store for 2017 the “Year of the Fire Rooster”
This year of the Monkey was (and still is!) an extremely auspicious year because it is the year in which Guru Rinpoche manifested on this earth. Because this is such a special year, Phakchok Rinpoche led four nine-day Great Accomplishment Practices, called “Drubchens” at sacred places associated with Guru Rinpoche – Bodhgaya, Tashi Ding, Bumthang and Boudhanath.
A Drubchen (Great Accomplishment) is a gathering of experienced male and female practitioners, in a sacred place at an auspicious time, practicing in an auspicious mandala, led by a genuine vajra master. By practicing in this way, the result is extremely auspicious. The auspicious conditions occurring simultaneously brings about supreme accomplishment and realization – that is why such a gathering is called the Great Accomplishment.
We have some incredible footage to share with you, make sure to watch these videos to see for yourself.

"If you ask whether Guru Rinpoche's Copper-Colored Mountain really exists within the outer world, I have to answer yes. As things stand at the moment, we perceive outer objects to be real and we think that appearances are truly established. As long as this world is real for us, then hell realms and buddhafields are equally real. For those who see the outside world as mere appearances, however, Zangdok Palri is likewise mere appearance. We have to talk about things in accordance with our own perception of the world."

Lotus Light Dharma Institute
Starting from six monks in 2006, Chapagaon Monastery has grown to house fifty young monks with an ever-growing waiting list. This first generation of monks have already graduated from the Shedra and are now returning to their villages fully qualified and prepared to teach the Dharma and serve the lay community.

Spreading the Dharma
In order to successfully nurture Dharma teachers for the growing lay community, the current community of fifty young monks is insufficient. A community of a hundred and fifty monks is required to provide an optimal foundation to grow Dharma teachers quickly enough to meet the needs of local and overseas Buddhist practitioners. To house this larger community, a new Dharma Institute is needed.

Wherever there is space, five elements pervade,
Wherever the five elements, the homes of living beings,
Wherever living beings, karma and defilements,
Wherever is defilement, my compassion also.
Wherever is the need of beings, there I am to help them.
