Monthly highlight of the activities of Phakchok Rinpoche and the global community of Samye Institute.

This month, we are excited to notify you of three upcoming events. From August 7-12th, there will be two important annual pujas practiced at our Do-Ngak Ling Monastery of Chapagaon: the Korwa Dongtruk Puja and the Ngensong Dongtruk Puja. These pujas are especially potent for the deceased. During this time, on August 7th, in Asura, there will be the accumulation of one-hundred-thousand tsok offerings of The Spontaneous Fulfiller of All Wishes (Tukdrup Sampa Lhündrup). We will have the opportunity to practice this tsok bum together as a global sangha. Find more info on these pujas below.
We are pleased to announce Phakchok Rinpoche’s upcoming September teaching tour in New York. Rinpoche has kindly agreed to offer the following gatherings, which will be open to the public. All of the details are forthcoming, so please stay tuned for official announcements on Samye’s website and social media.
– September 7th, public teaching, topic TBD, hosted in Irvington by the Westchester Buddhist Center
– September 9th and 10th, Lama Norlha puja and Sangtik Dorsem empowerment, hosted in Queens by Dharma House New York City
– September 16th to 20th, Path of Meditation teachings and retreat based on the King of Meditation Sutra, hosted in Cooperstown by Rangjung Yeshe Gomde NY
Additionally, we joyfully remind you of Rinpoche’s upcoming book: Awakening Dignity. Preorder is now available. Further details can be found in the section below.
In this issue, we are also pleased to feature Lhasey Lotsawa Translations & Publications’ monthly translation releases and updates. Moreover, we have highlighted Akara Collection’s auspicious item: the long-life arrow - the main tool for magnetizing accomplishments in long life and wealth practices.
On July 21st, 2022, we made an offering to the daily lighting of 1,000 butter lamps at Asura Cave with the following dedication: “May the patrons of Samye Institute, and the whole world, be free of all disease, hardship, war, and negativity. May all beings, in all realms, be happy, healthy, and safe! May they have all that they need. And may they attain enlightenment in this very life”.

Yuthok Nyingtik Drubchen
Concluding on July’s Full Moon day, our Traditional Buddhist Sorig Herbal Medicine Institute completed the practice of a 7-day Yuthok Nyintik Drupchen hosted at Boudha’s Riwoche Monastery, overseen by Phakchok Rinpoche. The drupchen was undertaken for purpose of dispersing the suffering of all sentient beings. The Yuthok Nyingtik is an entire Vajrayana path that interweaves traditional Tibetan Buddhist medicine. Awakening Dignity: A New Book from Phakchok Rinpoche
There are a lot of Dharma books on compassion and wisdom but virtually none focusing on dignity. In this book, Rinpoche teaches us how to recognize, stabilize, and eventually embody our inner dignity to free ourselves from the ocean of suffering so that we can help the world. The book is accessible to everyone, from non-Buddhists to seasoned Buddhist practitioners.
Upcoming Tsok Bum Series: Tukdrup Sampa Lhündrup

Time: 5:45–8:45 p.m. Nepal time

Our monks will make extensive offerings from the Asura Cave Retreat Center in Nepal. Together, our monks, nuns, and lay sangha will accumulate a total of 100,000 repetitions of the Sampa Lhündrup Tsok offering prayer. Upcoming Annual Puja: Korwa Dongtruk
August 7th-9th, 2022
Location: Do-Ngak Ling Monastery Chapagaon
Korwa Dongtruk is a teaching of Guru Rinpoche revealed in a terma by the great tertön, Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa. Compiled by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, the sādhana, entitled “All-pervading Benefit,” is a practice of Red Avalokiteshvara.

Upcoming Annual Puja: Hundredfold Puja of the Dredger of the Lower Realms’ Depths
August 10th-12th, 2022
Location: Do-Ngak Ling Monastery Chapagaon
Over the course of three days, our monks will accumulate 150 repetitions of the Ngensong Dongtruk puja, the Avalokiteshvara practice of the Tukdrup Barché Kunsel cycle.
Avalokiteshvara is the essence of the speech of all the Buddhas and the embodiment of their compassion. In this very special practice, Avalokiteshvara is invoked together with the buddhas of the five families, the four manifestations of Avalokiteshvara, as well as a further seven Bodhisattvas.

Long-Life Arrow
This arrow is the main tool for magnetizing accomplishments in long life and wealth practices. The arrow itself represents skillful means and the feather at one of the extremes symbolizes wisdom. The five-colored cloth ribbons, stand ultimately for the five wisdoms, but can also be seen as the five Buddha families and the five elements.
