Monthly highlight of the activities of Phakchok Rinpoche and the global community of Samye Institute.

This month, as a global sangha, we joyfully completed the sixth of The Tsok Bum series: Sangtik Phurba (Secret Vital Essence of Vajrakīlaya) on December 24th (the eleventh Guru Rinpoche Day). For the seventh Tsok Bum, we will gather together online in 15 days for the practice of Pema Khandro (Lotus Dakini, or Kurukulle). You can find more details about both Tsok Bum below.
The Malaysian sangha is organizing daily supplication practices in Honor of Kyabjé Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche’s parinirvana. These practices are being held in the Guru Rinpoche Lhakhang at Putra Heights. Every day for 49 days, the sangha is reciting the Trinley Nyingpo practice. And every 7th day, the sangha also performs a more elaborate Trinley Ningpo practice including a Tsok. All Dharma siblings are encouraged to join these practices online via Zoom. Please scroll down to the section below for further information.
The Samye Team is delighted to announce that Phakchok Rinpoche will offer a series of Dharma teachings over the course of the next month. As the teachers regularly remind us, the gift of the precious Dharma is the supreme offering as it alone unfolds the path to the cessation of suffering and to complete enlightenment. Phakchok Rinpoche has now decided to offer clear guidance to help us identify our current location on the path and what steps we need to take in order to progress. Please scroll down to see the individual events and topics. Registration links are found under Upcoming Events on the Samye website. Please register early if you would like to submit a question for Rinpoche!
We also have a special announcement about the Tsok Bum series. After the upcoming Pema Khandro Tsok Bum, Samye will host an additional global online tsok bum gathering during the first Guru Rinpoche Day of the new Tibetan year of the Iron Ox. On February 22nd, we will practice the Tsa Sum (Three Roots) Tsok Bum. And, then on the first full moon day of the year, February 27th, Samye will host a global online Riwo Sangcho practice. More information about both of these online gatherings will be shared on Samye and social media in the coming weeks.
With the Pema Khandro Tsok Bum approaching in two weeks, Akara is featuring sacred items related to Kurukulle. New hand-painted thangkas of Kurukulle as well as the Kurukulle pendant and red carnelian mala.
Furthermore, in the digest update below, you will find exciting updates from Radically Happy and Lhasey Lotsawa. And, an inspiring update from the charitable activities of our Malaysian sangha.
On January 2, 2021 the Samye team requested Three Prayers to Remove Obstacles & Gather Positive Conditions · (Including two prayers to Guru Rinpoche: Clearing the Obstacles of the Path (Barchey Lamsel) and Spontaneous Fulfillment of Wishes (Sampa Lhündrub) as well as the Praises to 21 Taras) via Monlam.org with the following dedication: “May the patrons of Samye Institute, and the whole world, be free of all disease and hardship. Supplication in Honor of Kyabjé Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche
“You have received the teachings; now it’s up to you to practice. Please do so, before it is too late. Please don’t just remain heartbroken and depressed. Try your best to practice the instructions in a trusting and loving way; that is something that will please the guru. Pleasing him will help dispel obstacles for the rest of our lives.” - Kyabje Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche (1953-2020)
Keeping this pith instruction in our hearts, the Malaysian lay sangha joined together to conduct prayers for Chokling Rinpoche as soon as we learned that his health condition was deteriorating. We did Narak Kongshak, Lamp Aspirations and Mending Samayas for Longevity of the Guru, and Long Life Prayers for Chokling Rinpoche on a weekly basis for his wellbeing and to mend our samayas.
When Rinpoche entered Tukdam on Dec 18, 2020. Phakchok Rinpoche advised us to chant the Ultimate Guru Sadhana of Simplicity along with Calling the Gurus From Afar. He joined in the zoom session and advised us to meditate and try and stabilize our meditation practice as a way to mingle our minds with the Guru while he was in Tukdam. We continued with this prayer daily.
After Chokling Rinpoche completed his Tukdam on Dec 24, 2020. Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche advised the Malaysian sangha to do daily Trinley Nyingpo practice for 49 days. Every 7th day, we’ve arranged for a longer Trinley Ningpo text with a Tsok offering. and we’ve also opened Guru Rinpoche Lhakhang at Putra Heights, Malaysia. We’ve been conducting our practice online via Zoom and dharma siblings from all over the world have joined us. All the online prayer sessions have been led by Lama Jangchub Yeshe, the resident lama at Ka-Nying Ling Dharma Society, Kuala Lumpur.
All Dharma siblings are welcome to join us as a mandala for the daily prayers to earnestly and steadfastly pray for the swift rebirth of Chokling Rinpoche as advised by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche.

New Publications:
A concise guru yoga to Kyapjé Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche composed by his son, the Fourth Kyapjé Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche.
This prayer to Chokgyur Lingpa was written down by Rikdzin Chögyel Dorjé from a treasure scroll. Rikdzin Chögyel Dorjé had a vision of Guru Rinpoche in which the Guru assured him, “Whoever supplicates in this way will be reborn in the pure realms. Of this there is no doubt!”
We are pleased to share with you this new edition to our library thanks in large part to the translation work of the Dharmachakra Translation Committee: A Concise Liturgy for the Practice of Chöd (‘Severance’) based on the teachings of Dechen Gyalpo, one of the twelve emanations of the Dispeller of All Obstacles.
A devotional prayer addressed to Guru Rinpoche by one of his main consorts, the Indian Princess Lhacham Mandāravā.
We hope these translations will be of great benefit to your practice and all beings. May it be auspicious!
