Dakini Day Digest

December 10 · Issue #49 · View online

Monthly highlight of the activities of Phakchok Rinpoche and the global community of Samye Institute.

This month, derived from the wish and recommendation of Phakchok Rinpoche, we joyfully completed the practice of Tukdrup Gongpa Kundü Tsok Bum, fifth in the series of seven 100,000 ganachakra feast offering (or: tsok bum). Please scroll down to find more details about it in the section below.
This evening at 5:45 pm Nepali time, the fourth teaching of our senior Lama teaching series continues with Drupla Sonam Tsering’s second session on practical advice for planning one’s personal retreat. More details and how-to-join information can be found on the Samye Events page.
For next month’s senior Lama teaching series, Drupla Sonam Tsering and Drupla Opak will offer a joint teaching on the topic of “Preparing to Die, Learning to Live”.
Moreover, per Phakchok Rinpoche’s request, Samye Institute is hosting a senior Lama teaching series live-translated into Chinese. The first publicly available teaching will focus on the second of the Four Dharmas of Gampopa. These four lines give profound pith instructions for following the Buddhist path. The upcoming teaching will be happening Saturday morning, December 12th. These teachings will generally happen on a monthly basis, on Saturday mornings.
Phakchok Rinpoche’s latest book, In the Footsteps of Bodhisattvas, has been officially released. And yesterday, December 9th, Samye Institute launched a 14-week live course to supplement the study and practice of the text. If you missed this initial semester of the course, we plan to also offer it in Spring, 2021, so stay tuned!
This month, Akara Collection joyfully features the first-ever handcrafted Sangtik Phurpa daggers made from sengting wood according to the instructions in the Vajrakilaya tantras. These Kilaya daggers are specially handcrafted by our Bhutanese artisans based on the actual Sangtik Phurpa dagger present during Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa’s time. You can find further details about this wonderful item in the digest below.
Please note that dates for White Umbrella Puja have shifted and the puja is now happening from December 11th to 13th. The puja will be concluding on the 29th day (Dharmapala Day) of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar.
On December 1st, Samye Institute requested Three Prayers to Remove Obstacles & Gather Positive Conditions · (Two Prayers to Guru Rinpoche: Clearing the Obstacles of the Path (Barchey Lamsel) and Spontaneous Fulfillment of Wishes (Sampa Lhündrub) as well as the Praises to 21 Taras) via with the following dedication:
“ May the patrons of Samye Institute, and the whole world, be free of all disease and hardship. May all beings, in all realms, be happy, healthy, and safe!”

Radically Happy Now Available in Thai!
Radically Happy : A User’s Guide to the Mind – a book co-written by Phakchok Rinpoche and Erric Solomon – is now available in the Thai language!
It’s true that Buddhism speaks mostly about enlightenment. But without a solid foundation of contentment, basic sanity and a decent self-image, you can’t flourish in life—either as a spiritual practitioner or as a practitioner of daily life. Not everyone wants to become a Buddhist, but doesn’t everyone want to be able to flourish and enjoy what life has to offer? We all want to be able to cope, without totally losing it when things don’t work out. And that last point is the heart of what Radical Happiness really is. It’s a subtle sense of well-being we can always access, especially when things are not so great.
Charitable Offerings from Our Sangha in Malaysia
In October, in conjunction with the global accumulation tsok bum, Rangjung Yeshe Perak visited Rainbow Children’s Home with food items, household necessities and ice cream. This was the third installment in RYPK’s pledge to coordinate charitable activity with each tsok bum. In November, as the fourth charitable activity, the sangha distributed similar necessities at Praise Home for Girls and Boys.

Sangtik Phurpa Daggers in Sengting Wood
This month to celebrate the 6th Tsok Bum, 100,000 Ganachakra feast offerings at Asura Cave, Akara rejoices in sharing the first-ever hand crafted Sangtik Phurpa daggers carved from sengting wood as specified in the Vajrakilaya tantras. These Kilaya daggers are specially handcrafted by our Bhutanese artisans based on the actual Sangtik Phurpa dagger present during Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa’s time. They will soon be available via the Akara Collection. These phurpas will be enshrined and blessed during the upcoming Vajrakilaya Tsok Bum at Asura Cave, where our Mahaguru Padmasambhava practiced Vajrakilaya and received unsurpassable supreme siddhi. May all be Auspicious.
Global Magnetizing Accumulation
Rinpoche has requested that all of his students, and all who are inspired to do so, recite the Giant Cloud of Blessings, or Wang Dü magnetizing supplication as part of their daily practice. This supplication, composed by Ju Mipham Rinpoche, brings enormous benefit, especially during these times.
Remember, you can now track year-to-date totals of the Six Vajra Lines Supplication and the Giant Cloud of Blessings Magnetizing Prayer in addition to the grand totals. The yearly accumulator will be reset annually on Losar.
