Monthly roundup of activities from the global community of Samye Institute and Phakchok Rinpoche.

This month, as a global sangha, we joyfully completed the Guru Tsokyé Nyingtik Tsok Bum, the third in our series of seven global online ganachakra feast offering practices (or: tsok bum) outlined by Phakchok Rinpoche. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to practice the Guru Dorje Draktsel—Guru Mighty Vajra Wrath on October 26. Please scroll down to find more details about it in the digest.
On this auspicious Dakini Day, the monks of Vajra Varahi Monastery will be completing seven days of Kurukullé puja. And, furthermore, we will offer the second in our online Senior Lama Teaching Series featuring the topic: How to Plan Your Personal Retreat. Drupla Sonam Tsering will offer practical advice that will prepare us to confidently do our own individual retreats. More details and registration for other teachings in this series will be forthcoming on our Events page on the Samye website.
Tulku Migmar Tsering continues to guide the RYO Singapore sangha through auspicious practices. And, Gomde Cooperstown is hosting an online Trinley Nyingpo practice. Both RYO’s and Gomde’s programs can be joined via Zoom. Find information below.
The Chinese Dharma Stream group has been supporting food relief in Nepal during the past couple of months. And, in Malaysia, our sangha has been carrying on with their inspiring practice of generosity on Guru Rinpoche Day to coincide with the Tsok Bum series.
Also, we have a number of important updates and key information about upcoming events. The next two annual pujas will happen before the next Dakini Day; find the info in the Upcoming Events section. Akara is featuring thangkas blessed in the recent Tsok Bum. Radically Happy has a continuing series of events tailored to be beneficial in these difficult times. Lhasey Lotsawa has shared some of its new translation work. And, Phakchok Rinpoche’s new book will be released in two weeks! Find more information in the sections below.
Finally, on 10/1/20, we requested a Tara Puja (which includes the Praises to the 21 Taras) via Monlam.org with the following dedication: “May the patrons of Samye Institute, and the whole world, be free of all disease and hardship. May they all be happy, healthy, prosperous, and safe!”

One Million Recitations of the Lotus Dakini Mantra and One Hundred-Thousand Fire Pujas
Today the monks of our Vajra Varahi Monastery in Chapagaon will complete the seven day puja of one million recitations of the Lotus Dakini - Kurukullé or Pema Khandro - mantra and one hundred-thousand fire pujas from The Seven Cycles of Profundity. Kurukullé is a Dakini renowned for her power to magnetize. Through her practice the practitioners magnetized all favorable circumstances: teachers, teachings, the ability to understand and engage with the teachings, wealth, prosperity, for the benefit of the Dharma and sentient beings, and ultimately the nature of mind.
The Third Of The Tsok Bum Series: Guru Tsokyé Nyingtik
The third in our series of seven global online ganachakra feast offering practices, the Guru Tsokyé Nyingtik Tsok Bum was practiced on the previous Guru Rinpoche Day (26th September 2020).
We are delighted to share with you that, as a global sangha representing 41 countries, we all together accumulated more than 150,000 recitations.
Rinpoche believes that the tremendous magnetizing power of these Tsok Bum will be particularly effective in this period of global pandemic and unrest.
Naga Puja at Rangjung Yeshe Oddiyana Singapore
Last month, Tulku Migmar Tsering, guided the RYO sangha in an auspicious Naga puja with glorious torma and lavish offerings. Dharma siblings and friends from all over the world sent in names and contributions for great blessing.
RYO Singapore regularly organizes pujas led by Tulku Migmar Tsering. These pujas are available on Zoom as well for anyone who would like to join the practice. Details and schedule can be found on their Facebook Page.

Charitable offerings from our sangha in Malaysia and China
The Rangjung Yeshe Malaysia sangha and personal friends made contributions to those in need especially during these perilous times. They report, “We managed to provide food aid (powdered milk, mung beans, flour etc) to 30 impoverished families in Klang. We are inspired to carry out these activities by Phakchok Rinpoche’s call for compassionate action in his Dharma Stream teachings.” This event took place on Saturday, September 26, 2020, a blessed Guru Rinpoche Day.
Rangjung Yeshe Perak sangha members completed their second charitable activity in conjunction with the Tsokyé Nyingtik tsok bum. All items were offered first to the three jewels and delivered thereafter to a home for the disabled with approximately 60 residents.
Lastly, over the past couple of months, mostly with the support of our Dharma Stream group in China, we have provided food relief to families and communities in need here in Nepal. We have shared a small collage of photos below.

Book Release: "In the Footsteps of Bodhisattvas: Buddhist Teachings on the Essence of Meditation"
We are happy to announce the book release of Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche’s teachings based on the King of Meditation Sutra. The book is currently available for pre-order via the publisher, Shambhala Publications, and wherever books are sold online. The official release date is October 27, 2020.
Here is an excerpt from Rinpoche’s introductory chapter of the book:
“This is not a book about a one-dimensional type of meditation training. Instead, this book teaches how the intangible essence of meditation naturally arises when we properly line-up the right conditions within our lives. This essence is compassionate and blissful but totally ungraspable; yet it can be realized. Don’t you want this?
To gain this realization of reality that brings total freedom, we need to practice the primary teachings of the Mahayana Buddhist path. We cannot focus on a singular meditation technique and expect to have a fruitful result if we extract it from the framework of correct view, meditation, and conduct. Instead, we must align all of the dimensions of our lives with authentic practice. This is what in Buddhism is called “walking the path.” If we are able to do this, there is no doubt that we will realize the open heart of true meditation.
As in other Dharma books, we will find here exercises and meditation methods; but we will also find the words of the Buddha, sourced from the King of Meditation Sutra, organized into a clear path of training. The sutra itself is forty chapters long, from which I have selected my favorite quotes and compiled them in this text. If we spend time reflecting on these passages and we apply the instruction and methods offered in each chapter, we will undoubtedly experience positive results. After all, we are studying and practicing the words of the Buddha.”

Tukdrup Sampa Lhündrup
On the Guru Rinpoche Day of September 26, two of these thangka sets were kept in the mandala of the Asura Gompa during the Guru Tsokyé Nyingtik tsok bum. The practices of two mandalas—Tukdrup Barché Künsel (Guru’s Heart Practice: Dispeller of all Obstacles) and Tukdrup Sampa Lhündrup (Spontaneous Fulfiller of All Wishes) will eliminate the practitioner’s outer, inner and secret obstacles, fulfill all aspirations, and the accomplishment of the two accumulations.
Akara now offers these practice supports as a set of two thangkas. For orders and further information, please go to Akara Collection website below:
Lhasey Lotsawa Translations & Publications
On this auspicious Dakini Day, we have begun the Nepali translation of “Following in your Footsteps: The Lotus Born Guru in Nepal”.
Furthermore, we have several new translations we’re delighted to share, highlighting the tireless efforts our team has recently devoted themselves to. We’re also excited to feature a new edition to our library, the entire Zaptik Drolchok practice cycle, courtesy in large part to our friends at Rangjung Yeshe Publications:
New Publications:
This practice set combines the Guru Tsokyé Nyingtik Sadhana with brief supplications, dedications and aspirations, and “Cloudbanks of the Two Accumulations,” the gathering offering liturgy that includes the Six Vajra Lines.
A piercing supplication to the gurus of all lineages, written by the great Rimé (ecumenical) master, Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Tayé.
A pithy instruction in ten verses outlining the entire path of Vajrayāna, composed by the 17th throne-holder of Kham Riwoché, the Third Phakchok Rinpoche, Chöying Lhündrup.
On this Dakini Day, Lhasey Lotsawa is pleased to share with you this new edition to our library, thanks, in large part, to the translation work of Rangjung Yeshe Publications: the famous practice of Zaptik Drolchok, revealed by Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa and arranged by Jamgön Kongtrul Rinpoche.
We hope these translations will be of great benefit to your practice and all beings. May it be auspicious!
Global Magnetizing Accumulation
Rinpoche has requested that all of his students, and all who are inspired to do so, recite the Giant Cloud of Blessings, or Wang Dü magnetizing supplication as part of their daily practice. This supplication, composed by Ju Mipham Rinpoche, brings enormous benefit, especially during these times.
Remember, you can now track year-to-date totals of the Six Vajra Lines Supplication and the Giant Cloud of Blessings Magnetizing Prayer in addition to the grand totals. The yearly accumulator will be reset annually on Losar.
